How UsedCarVet works
A used-car check in three steps, about 20 seconds from VIN to verdict.
Type the VIN, or paste the listing text or a screenshot. We read the VIN, price and mileage for you. No VIN yet? Year, make and model works for a rough check.
We decode the VIN, pull official recalls and owner complaints, compare the price with live dealer listings of similar cars and review the listing for warning signs.
Get a verdict, a score, a fair-price range, costs to budget for, questions for the seller and a message you can send as is.
Where the data comes from
- NHTSA. The US government's public database of recalls and owner complaints. Recalls are listed by model year, so always run your exact VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
- Live dealer listings. Similar cars for sale now, near you or nationwide. These are asking prices, which usually sit above what cars sell for.
- What you give us. The price, mileage, listing text and photos you share, plus the dealer's own page for the VIN when we are allowed to read it.
- AI. It turns all of that into the verdict, the cost estimates and the negotiation message. It can be wrong, which is why we show our sources and say what we could not verify.
What we don't do
We do not show accidents, title brands, odometer history or service records. For those you need a vehicle history report, and before you pay you should have an independent mechanic inspect the car. Read the full list in what we do and don't do.
