Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 30, 2026
UsedCarVet ("we", "us") helps used-car shoppers check a car before buying it. This page explains what data we handle, why, and who else sees it. We run the service as Yusuf Akmaz.
What you give us
- The car details you enter: VIN, year, make and model, asking price, mileage and ZIP code.
- Any listing text you paste and any screenshots you upload.
- The questions you type into "Ask about this car".
- Your email address, when you pay (you give it to our payment provider, which passes it to us).
We use these only to produce your report and answers, and to run and protect the service.
How your data is processed
- AI provider. Your car details, listing text, screenshots and questions are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, so it can read the listing and write the report. Anthropic's own terms and privacy policy apply to that processing.
- Vehicle data providers. The VIN, or year, make and model, is sent to the US government's NHTSA public database (recalls and complaints) and to Auto.dev (vehicle and dealer-listing data). Your ZIP code may be sent to Auto.dev to find cars near you.
- Dealer listing pages. When a dealer has listed the VIN you enter, our server may read that dealer's public listing page, honoring the site's robots.txt, to summarize what the seller says. The dealer's website can see that request. It comes from our server, not from you.
- Hosting. The service runs on a hosting provider's servers. Data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate.
What we keep, and for how long
- Free checks and screenshots. They are not saved in a database. They are held in the server's memory for about 30 minutes so you can ask follow-up questions, then discarded (paid checks are also saved as described below). A copy of a finished report without your identity may be cached for up to 24 hours to avoid repeating the same analysis. Text read from a dealer's page is cached for up to 6 hours.
- A device cookie. One functional cookie (
cc_device, one year) containing a random ID. We use it only to count free checks. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. - A network address count. We store a one-way hash of your IP address with a daily counter to limit abuse. These rows are deleted after about two days. We also see your IP address in server logs while handling requests.
- Purchase records: order number, plan, email address, access code, the device IDs that use it (up to 3), number of checks used and expiry date.
- Saved reports: when you run a paid check, we keep the car details you entered, the data we found and the report under your access code for one year, so you can reopen it. Screenshots you upload are not saved. You can delete a saved report yourself, or ask us to delete everything linked to your code. Free checks are not saved.
How we use your email
We use the email address from your purchase to deliver your order, answer support requests and handle refunds, and to restore your purchase on another device. We do not sell or rent it, and we do not send marketing email unless you ask for it.
Payments
Paid plans are sold through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as merchant of record. You give your card and billing details to Lemon Squeezy, not to us, and its privacy policy applies to that data. Lemon Squeezy sends us a notice of each order containing your email address, the order number, the plan, and the device ID from your cookie so we can add your checks. We keep these purchase records for as long as needed to provide the service, handle refunds, and meet our tax and legal duties.
Sharing
We do not sell your data. We share it only with the services needed to run the site (AI provider, vehicle data providers, hosting provider) and when the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
You can clear the cookie in your browser at any time (your free-check count may then not carry over). To ask what data we hold about you, or to have it deleted, email support@usedcarvet.com. If you live in a place with privacy laws such as California or the EU, you may have additional rights, and you can use the same address to exercise them. Because we operate from Türkiye, Turkish data protection law (KVKK) may also apply to your data.
Children
The service is for adults. It is not directed to anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you on the site.
